Yes, I've been a little busy this summer. The State Democratic Convention, two Blues Under the Bridge concerts, PrideFest and lots of great, new customers, so I've neglected the blog again. It's been an incredibly busy 6 months and now the snow is flying! A huge "thanks" to all who have laughed with me, supported me, befriended me and helped me through this last year. I promise to start posting again to the blog, at least, that's my New Year's resolution and you know how those go, but I am going to try.

It's hot, really hot. Especially, standing next to a 325 degree oven! But regardless of the heat, this month I have been experiencing lots of creative ideas and this is just one that I was able to execute. What better use for this than on an apron? My Mom loves it! I bet yours will, too. Natural colored bib apron with deep pockets, silkscreened in green ink, of course. They are really affordable, and also would be great for Dads, as well. $15.00 + shipping.

Rainy Day Blues

Time flies when you procrastinate. But I do have an excuse for not posting to my blog for a while. It's Spring, I've been busy and plenty o' things on my plate these days. The Liberal Store is coming along. We will be getting more inventory in this week in preparation for the upcoming First Friday Art Opening in the building. It will also be an extra long weekend, as the Blues Under the Bridge concert will be the following night and I plan to be open for both evenings. Yahoo!

The incredible Robert Belfour will be playing that evening. Along with John Black and local favorites John-Alex Mason and The Jake Loggins Band, it promises to be a fun evening and a great kick off for The Liberal Store, too.

On this rainy day, my e-mail server has been down yet, once again. I would change companies in a heart beat, but everyone in the world has this e-mail address. I do have another one set up on Yahoo if anyone has trouble contacting me. It is diann80907@yahoo.com and it has yet to have a problem.....EVER!

One of the most influential authors in my limited universe has died...
I credit him with dipping my toes into the realm of free thought, much of my quirky sense of humor and liberal leanings in politics.
My college years were sprinkled with Kurt Vonnegut's words and their effect was longer lasting than I could have ever imagined.
Someone said in memorium....."a library burned today". But I say, his pirate's sensibility and fearless writing will live on.

Back from my Yucatan vacation! Great snorkeling, much needed relaxation and lots of fun! But the flights, customs, security checks and the long waits in lines made it almost not worth the trouble of traveling there. We were most disappointed at the building and sale of lots in the biosphere, Sian Kahn, which is supposed to be a protected area. It was pretty obvious that the influx of American and European dollars has finally taken it's toll. Can't blame the Mexicans for wanting to cash in on the tourists, but as one returning vacationer we spoke with on the plane put it....."well, they will just sink with the rest of us!" Hundreds of taxis traveling up and down the peninsula spoke to the lack of public transportation and the latest job opportunity in the area. We saw Office Depot and Sam's Club in Playa del Carmen, along with a 7-11. Oh my gosh.
The days of secluded, relaxing adventure vacations down there have been replaced by Disneyland-like lagoons and crowded vans of people going to "jungle adventure" theme parks.
Prices were astronomical and we paid $7.00 for a frappacino at a Baskin-Robbins in the airport. Not your typical cheap Mexican vacation anymore! I still loved the beaches, the snorkeling and waking up to sounds of waves and birds. Tread lightly if you want to still go there. The only thing that can save the area is responsible tourism.

March 23rd will find us on the plane headed to the beach. I will be back in the studio on April 2nd with a tan and renewed spirit! This was a tough call since things are pretty busy around here right now, but gosh, those untransferable, non-refundable tickets and paid for accommodations, makes it unrealistic to not go! Being the first real vacation I've taken (not counting down time with my parents) in the four years I've had this business........I think I'm due. Talk to you soon!

For anyone who is interested and can't preview this wonderful Sky Map for March, I can send you the website (and you can click on the heading above) so you can get it for your own latitude. Star gazing is my own personal way of keeping in touch with my place in the universe. Concerning outdoor activities of all kinds, being in touch with nature and our outside environment.....studies say that the average person only spends 10% of their time outdoors now. Shocking, isn't it? But I have to say, I'm not too surprised by that figure. It's my own theory that it is unnatural, unhealthy, physically and mentally, for a person to spend that much time indoors. I always feel a sense of renewal when I've been outdoors doing something. With Spring just around the proverbial corner, I find myself anxiously looking forward to being outdoors more, Sky Map in hand, learning more about the stars and feeling my place among them, riding my bike to work, gardening, taking monster walks with Rosie the beagle or just laying in the grass in the sun. ummmmm. I can hardly wait. First, Mexico!

You can always pinpoint the day each year around here when people's minds suddenly awaken to the fact that Spring is just around the corner. Phone calls, estimates, inquiries, drop-ins suddenly start happening all at once. I can tell it's going to get busy around here really soon. Like now!
Over the last week, having discovered the CafePress.com site once again, I decided to experiment with setting up a store on it with a few of my designs. It's at http://cafepress.com/rainydaysstudio. I love that old television show and I'm so glad it's running on PBS right now. My favorite pasttime is looking at all the old great t-shirts the cast is wearing. Of course, Ruth Ann, the storekeeper has some of the best. I decided to recreate this one of hers.

Come on now.....I'm trying to think positively while my feet become blocks of ice on this cold, concrete studio floor. The boyfriend and I are going to Mexico the last week of March and it won't be too soon! He's a native Colorado Springsian and claims that this is the most unusual Winter he has experienced here in quite some time. My parents would agree, I'm sure, as they "hunker down" in their RV, stranded in the Hill Country in Texas. Their getaway trip after the holidays turned into an icy retreat, complete with icicles precariously hanging from the roof of their traveling home to the ground. Last call from them yesterday was a comforting one, letting me know they were going to stay put until this third storm goes on through. Funny, I've become the worried parent in a complete role reversal. Running out to get more reading material, getting plenty of naps, along with lively games of dominoes to fend off boredom have now become their daily routine. Personally, it's been heck for business here. Who wants to think about screening 6.1 oz., short-sleeve t-shirts when it's 0 degrees outside? Things are picking up now, with the sale going on, but sure am looking forward to the busy Spring season.
I'm not ready to start playing dominoes quite yet.

I'm back from Christmas vacation! I was a lucky woman and was able to fly out of Denver International on the second plane leaving from DIA after the first big storm on it's original schedule. I felt a bit guilty walking by all the people who had been stranded and sleeping in that airport for two days. Yes, I was lucky. I've paid for it though in the amount of snow shoveling I've had to do at home and at the studio. Two blizzards, back to back....pretty uncommon here, especially this time of year. But the sun is back out, the temperature is rising, streets are clearing and I'm back to work!
Thanks to all my customers who were so patient during that rushed week. A happy new year to you!

Christmas Rush

It's late this year and I'm afraid I will be turning away some folks that have waited too long. I am doing my best, as usual, to accommodate everyone. If I can't get a post on here, it's because I'm just too dang busy! It doesn't even seem like Christmas is upon us. I'm getting in the spirit, but the weather isn't cooperating. Once again, it's to be in the 50's today and through the week, so my "Let it Snow" project (they are aprons!) seems all the more necessary! Ha. I'm thinking of taking one over to the gourmet cooking shop downtown today and see if I can make some extra dollars with my design. They really did come out great! And the screenprinting is relatively easy at a pretty cheap cost. I've heard from other retailers that the season is not so wonderful this year for sales. Guess we all have to get a little more creative....

He was bored. Seems folks aren't too interested in buying sailboats this time of year. He thought I would answer the phone...."Snowy Days" :-) and as a matter of fact, it was snowing in Kansas! That's a rare event. Colorado Springs only received about 2 to 4 inches with much more in the mountains, of course. It's icy and cold, but the sun is out today! Ready to put up the Christmas lights in the studio and I'm officially getting into the spirit. 22 days and I fly home to Wichita, Kansas for the holidays. Returning on December 28th. So the studio will be closed during that time. If you have any special orders for Christmas, NOW is the time to give me a call, Monday through Friday, 10 am to 5 pm MST, at 719-471-2546 and I will do my best to fit you in. Time to get shopping!

This is a wonderful design for trips to the Sea of Cortez, Cozumel, Palau & Yap....
wherever the beautiful Manta swims. Usually, I love to print it on a dusty green color t-shirt, (I'm having difficulty with publishing the image in the right colors!) but it's easily adaptable to lots of other colors. I specialize in shirts for scuba diving trips, groups and tours and there are tons of designs to choose from. I will post some on here from time to time, or you can contact me about specific designs. I personalize the left chest with your logo or personal trip information, making it a shirt that is not only a great souvenir of your trip, but a very personal treasure.
Almost exactly 4 months and I'll be flipping around Akumal and Tulum reefs. The snow today has me daydreaming of the powdery beaches......sigh!
